When editing gconf it is for the logged in user. |
hmm... with the logged in user I can't see the plugin options I can see apss/compiz but in apps/compiz/plugins I can only see cube/screen0/options/color and this was since I tried something from this forum to change the some color (don't remember what color...) |
If you are not loading the plugins from command line then you have to add them to
/apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/active_plugins
gconf,decoration,wobbly,fade,minimize,cube,rotate,zoom,scale,move,resize,place,switcher
Logout and back in and your plugins should now show up under

I don't know if this will help but i had noticed in CoffeeBuzz's startxgl the order
of pluggins is differant than what David recommends in the HOWTO,
which i understand the order is important.
The HOWTO states
The current order in which the plugins should be loaded:
gconf,decoration,wobbly,fade,minimize,cube,rotate,zoom,scale,move,resize,place,switcher |
Yeah I was just looking over the HowTo, and there doesn't seem to be consistency in how the plugins should be loaded, some parts agree with David's recomendation, some don't. Has there been an update in the plugin loading order since David wrote that plugin loading order? |
Hope this helps. I followed David and it everything is working fine. |
Thanks, I've followed David's order and generally things have worked great. But now when I minimize any window, it's as if it was closed - it just dissapears, and nothing appears on taskbar when I open a program as well. This is under xfce4. Just thought maybe it had to do with order with which I installed the 'minimize' plugin. Maybe I'll play with the order and see.
Thanks. |

I had that same problem when starting XGL from command line.
When i made XGL start from GDM i got the pager back and minimize windows went
to the taskbar rather than disappear. _________________ Core i7 920 D0 | Asus P6T DLX | Patriot Viper 1600 6GB | Antec Quattro 850W

I have the problem too and it seems to be a problem with compiz-0.0.7_p20060322. I have downgrade to compiz-0.0.7_p20060321-r2 and it works well again.
I am using gnome-2.12 and there is maybe no problem with new gnome-2.14 but I'm waiting this new version is available on ~x86 to try. |

[SOLVED]!!
I follow the how-to blindly and therefore ended with this in kdm/Xstartup
Code: |
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib compiz --replace decoration wobbly fade minimize cube rotate zoom scale move resize place switcher &
|
compiz was running as root and ignoring gconf. I changed the line to
Code: |
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib compiz --replace decoration wobbly fade minimize cube rotate zoom scale move resize place switcher &
|
and I now can change options using gconf-editor with user root. I guess I can place this line somewhere in my home dir... |

The pager problem and minimize dissapear problem in gnome 2.12 is fixed by downgrading to a previous version of compiz as someone has already said Code: | emerge -av '<compiz-0.0.7_p20060322' |
But, can someone confirm if this is still a problem on the newest version of gnome? 2.14? Or is everyone having this issue? |

|
|
I merged the latest compiz from coffee overlay, and start the opaquefocus plugin,
this is really cool, but it works in windows mode, not the application mode, I hope
this can work under application mode, for example, in windows mode, I start firefox
to browse web page, then I want to save the page, I press CTRL+S, with the main
window of firefox becomes dark, the save dialog appears, I don't like this mode,
because this flicker here is not good, I hope it works in application mode, then when
press ctrl-s in firefor, the save as dialog appears without the main window darkness. |

Does anyone know how to disable click-to-raise in compiz? I want the focus to follow my mouse but not for windows to raise when clicked. I can't get the gconf plugin working, so I tried to hack the source. Changing the #define ...DEFAULT statements in src/display.c doesn't do it.

Open gconf-editor... then apps->compiz->general->allscreens->click_to_focus (make sure it's unchecked). |

I have an issue involving Xgl that's disabled all the ways I have to watch video on my box, name it, xine-ui, gxine, vlc, kaffeine, ad nauseum
All of them cause Xgl to segfault and throw me to the console even when the program is just launched and no video is loaded. The following error is logged in the log.
Quote: | Xgl[8551] trap divide error rip:2aaaacfe3f4d rsp:7fffffdd10d0 error:0 |
Any one have any idea how to solve this?
Thanks |

You may be experiencing a problem addressed in the HOWTO
emerge without xv support ie.. USE="-xv"
There is other info in the HOWTO that may help. _________________ Core i7 920 D0 | Asus P6T DLX | Patriot Viper 1600 6GB | Antec Quattro 850W

The gconf settings don't seem to make a difference, but I'm not loading the gconf plugin, so I'm guessing that's why. The other plugins only work when I specify them on the command line. |

If i'm not mistaken you must load the gconf plugin on the command line.
With it loaded then you can add the other plugins in gconf-editor, then logout-login
Make sure to add plugins in proper order as per HOWTO.
Then you can uncheck these two
/apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/autoraise "uncheck"
/apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/click_to_focus "uncheck"
Also keep in mind, putting the plugins in gconf-editor overides
command line plugin placement _________________ Core i7 920 D0 | Asus P6T DLX | Patriot Viper 1600 6GB | Antec Quattro 850W
