When i minimize a app to taskbar i can see a nice animation, but not anymore
when i kill or create a app.

Set "/apps/compiz/plugins/miniwin/screen0/options/deiconify_key" to "<Shift><Control>Button3".

i have set it to "<Shift>Button4" but this has nothing to do with the minimize plugin.
Do u have a minimize animation if u create a app or kill a app?

here are my miniwin settings ("0"=off;"1"=on):
allways on top = "0"
bring back centered = "1"
iconify on minimize = "0"
mindow-opacity = 50
mindow-width = 65
on all workspaces = "1"
opacity on hover = 70
runs on aiglx = "0"
scale on hover size = 1.2
taskbar hide on click = "0"
taskbar opacity = 0
taskbarspacing = 50
use as taskbar = "1"
window types = [Splash,Normal,Dialog,ModalDialog]

my options for the minimize plugin:
speed = 1
timestep = 1
window types = [Normal,ModalDialog,Dialog,Splash,Dock,Utility]
zoom created windows = "1"
zoom created windows from center = "0"

maybe a stupid question: how can I make screenshots of the rotating cube?
when I use scrot, I get the image of the current desktop and not of the cube.

I've got a few questions.
I installed Xgl using coffee's overlay via the wiki a little while and haven't had a lot of time lately to keep up to date. I've recently noticed a few new things coming in that deviate from the original overlay; water, transset, opaquefocus, trailfocus (superseeds opaquefocus?) mindow.

I noticed somebody provided another svn link a page or two back which was to xgl-coffee/trunk but it is different to the overlay I have.

This is my orignal overlay after an svn up
Code:
trinity xgl-coffee # ls /usr/local/xgl-coffee/x11-wm/compiz/
Manifest                           compiz-0.0.7_p20060321-r2.ebuild
compiz-0.0.5_alpha20060308.ebuild  compiz-0.0.7_p20060321.ebuild
compiz-0.0.5_alpha20060314.ebuild  compiz-0.0.7_p20060322-r1.ebuild
compiz-0.0.5_alpha20060315.ebuild  compiz-0.0.7_p20060322-r2.ebuild
compiz-0.0.5_alpha20060317.ebuild  compiz-0.0.7_p20060322-r3.ebuild
compiz-0.0.7_alpha20060318.ebuild  compiz-0.0.7_p20060322-r4.ebuild
compiz-0.0.7_alpha20060321.ebuild  compiz-0.0.7_p20060322.ebuild
compiz-0.0.7_p20060321-r1.ebuild   files
trinity xgl-coffee #
Code:

This is the svn I just checked out which I found a link to a page or two back. Compiz version is higher, is this a testing branch? WHat is the difference between 322-r4 and 403?
[code]
trinity xgl-coffee # ls /usr/local/xgl-coffee2/x11-wm/compiz/
Manifest                          compiz-0.0.7_p20060330.ebuild  files
compiz-0.0.7_p20060322-r5.ebuild  compiz-0.0.7_p20060403.ebuild
trinity xgl-coffee #[/code]

I would like to try out some of the new feature like mindow, trail focus etc but am confused as to which overlay I should stick too. As of writing on 322-r2.

I've noticed a few people talking about the 330 and 403 builds lately. Should I switch to this overlay?

Many thanks.

Hi!

I'm almost there, but i still have some kind of problem with plugins. I've compiled compiz and everything else using install.sh from the repos this afternoon. But when i start gnome as stated in the wiki none of the plugins are started. But if i start compiz with the --replace option i have cube, fade, task switch and one or two more. No window decoration, or snapping. The cube also doesn't rotate when i drag a window to another desktop. Is this some incompatibility or known problem with nvidia?

Plugin order (when i start from de command-line):
decoration wobbly fade minimize cube rotate zoom scale move resize place switcher

Another question, the plugin order is to be pasted into gconf-editor with spaces separating, commas or what?

Thanks for the help

no, in gconf editor you need to put a seperate entry for each plugin and make sure they are in order. Just move them up and down until they are all in the correct order.

Messages like this one make me not want to attempt to compile the new versions of Xgl in portage :)

Are you running xgl-testing or xgl-coffee?

Same problem here with latest coffee overlay, is there a solution available? And how do I easily downgrade?

To anyone having problems, please ensure the following:

1) Ensure you are using the latest SVN copy of the trunk overlay. The old overlay is depricated and no longer supported.

- delete (or backup somewhere) the old overlay
- checkout a new copy of the trunk (not testing)
- ensure the trunk overlay is added to your portage overlay

For example:

Code:

rm -rf /usr/local/xgl-coffee
cd /usr/local
svn co http://svn.xgl-coffee.org/xgl-coffee/trunk xgl-coffee

The above assumes you have your previous overlay at "/usr/local/xgl-coffee". Substitute yours if different.

2) Read the Wiki (you probably have, but read it again, as there may be important updates/changes)

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_XGL

3) Read the INSTALL and README(s) located in the overlay directory.

4) Rebuild all packages used in the overlay. Anytime one or more packages are updated, you will likely have dependancy problems unless you build all again. Especially with Mesa, Glitz, Xgl, Cairo. To help automate this, try running the included install.sh script.

./install.sh

This will give you the options to the script. Read the INSTALL file for instructions on using the script.

If this doesn't help, try manually building the packages according to the Wiki.

If you do not use the install script, please remember that you should clear out your old CVS directory as this can cause some issues when compiling if you have stale CVS files. The install script does this automatically.

5) Update the SVN archive to receive any updates (if it's been a few hours/days since you checked out or updated the archive. Sometimes things change and we cause an OOPS.

./svnup.sh

Then repeat step 4) above.

6) If ALL else fails, please post the SVN revision you are working from as well as the version of all packages associated.

The svn revision is printed when you run the svnup.sh script.

To get the package details and other useful info, run the following commands and provide the output to this forum so we can investigate.

Simply stating "it's broke since last revision" or "this or that doesn't run" does not provide enough detail to diagnose the problem. It can simply be a case of having to rebuild one or more packages to correct a library problem.

Code:

emerge -pv glproto compositeproto fixesproto libdrm x11-drm mesa glitz cairo xorg-server xgl compiz

Code:

eselect opengl list

7) If you still have problems running Xgl, keep trying. THe code is NOT mature by any means and is VERY experimental. Things tend to break often. There are many developers, many patches and it's all very fluid. One day patch X or plugin Y may work, but someone makes severe changes to one of the CVS projects, and renders the patch unusable. That's the risk with experimental ALPHA quality software.

However, if it's broken today, tomorrow could again fix it. That's the nature of the beast, at least for the next few months until some of the package we are depending on become stable and are introduced into Gentoo portage. Take for example glproto. We depend on 1.4.6 and were using an alpha version, and it's now in portage. Soon, the new cairo, glitz, etc will be there as well. Xgl and compiz are probably going to stay out of portage for a long time and may never hit portage. Xgl is supposed to be a stepping stone as is compiz.

hi.

I have a problem with Xgl and fglrx-8.23.7 drivers. i have the latest Xgl, glitz, mesa, glproto, Compiz from CoffeeBuzz's svn.
When i run:

Code:
Xgl :1 -ac -accel glx:pbuffer -accel xv:pbuffer & DISPLAY=:1 xterm

i get Xgl with xterm, so far so good. But when i run glxinfo compiz or any other 3d app, it just hangs. And the only thing i can do is kill the Xserver. Does someone know a solution to this problem, i dont get any error from Xgl.

System:

Ok so I have been trolling back through the pages and noticed that Coffee has a new repository format. I'm still on the older one.

Code:
New repo format. PLease upgrade.

rm -rf /usr/local/xgl-coffee

cd /usr/local && svn co http://svn.xgl-coffee.org/xgl-coffee/trunk xgl-coffee

If you want the testing branch (and I encourage anyone with some debugging skills to do so!!)

cd /usr/local && svn co http://svn.xgl-coffee.org/xgl-coffee/testing xgl-testing

I've updated my overlay appropriately but would like to known the best way to upgrade. Just run the install script and update all the packages? Un-merge all the old packages first? Just perform a
Code:
"emerge -pv glproto compositeproto fixesproto libdrm x11-drm mesa glitz cairo xorg-server xgl compiz "

I just wasn't sure whether switching over to the newer ovlay format from the old would work with mycurrent xgl setup.

No need to unmerge. Follow the HOWTO for the new repository format. Once you svn
up READ the readme file in the xgl-coffee folder. Good info in there. If you hadn't svn
up'd in a while i would do a full install as per the install.sh script. Use the script it
works and is convenient. Good luck.

Ok Coffee gang.
I was not happy with the transparent look after adding trailfocus plugin and running
the trans-inactive command on startup "/usr/bin/trans-inactive -a 0.9 -i 0.4 &" as per
the readme. With this setup everything on the screen, including transparent applets
"gdesklets, gkrellm2" was affected and didn't look right.
I removed the trans-inactive command from startup and readjusted trailfocus and
got great results.

exclude - [Gdesklets-daemon, Gkrellm2]
maximum_trail_count - 2
maximum_window_brightness_level - 100
maximum_window_opacity_level - 90
maximum_window_saturation_level - 100
minimum_window_brightness_level - 95
minimum_window_opacity_level - 50
minimum_window_saturation_level - 100

I hope this helps someone.
New screenshot here.
http://www.lynucs.org/?&Jupiter
The application on the right side of the cube was the last active window.
The left side "FireFox" is inactive

Oh and mindows is working great but high cpu usage.

Don't forget the quinnstorm flag for compiz. Since your using the coffee install.sh
script then use "/usr/portage/package.use" to put the flag.

no, in gconf editor you need to put a seperate entry for each plugin and make sure they are in order. Just move them up and down until they are all in the correct order.

Thanks, the add button wasn't very obvious... :P

Well i'm still having the same behaviour with the plugins. I'm using revision 71 of the new repos. Where can i diagnose that a certain plugin has some problem, needs a certain plugin to be loaded previously or some kind of log?

Thanks for the help
