OK: on one side we have the minor inconvenience of having to sneakernet an entire Gentoo install (and that's assuming another readily accessible PC with a CD burner and a stack of blanks) or cope with the monstrosity that is a Knoppix chroot.

On the other side we have the life-changing struggle of having to go a whole three hours listening to your iPod, to CDs, to the radio, or (gasp!) without any music at all.

Seriously, if that isn't a false analogy, I don't know what is.

I didn't say that, I didn't recommend to anyone that they should download Knoppix. I just mentioned it as an example and it works for me. People are free to use whatever installation method they wish. I find it bizzare that some people are managing to take my words out of context and litterly both at the same time.

My comment just then had nothing to do with you using knoppix previously.

You said it would be quicker to download and not build. And I said "Using that reasoning shouldn't gentoo just scrap livecds altogether as everything we provide someone else has on their's?"

Not really, it lets me listen to music during an installation. So it has relevance, even if I lived without it beforehand.

Based on that logic, toilets are important for installations since they let me poop while the install goes.

What the hell does me not dying have to do with anything? I'm being completely serious here.

What else should gentoo stop supporting simply because it won't cause deaths?

I'm going to go ahead and assume that English isn't your first language, 'life or death' is a figure of speech for 'urgently important'. It's not to be taken literly. And I also don't remember ever saying that Gentoo should stop supporting anything, these are all things you've pulled out of some magical hat in 'out of context' land.

I'm well aware that it's a figure of speech.

What you were saying is "Gentoo doesn't need to support ndiswrapper because it isn't absolutely urgent that it be in there." My question, if you had ignored the grandiose-ness of it, was asking "Well, then what else do you deem to not be urgent that we should stop supporting?"

Get it?

edit:
But you still haven't responded to my "toilet" comment.
Being able to listen to music during while the install goes on has no more relevance to the install than taking a dump does.

The LiveCD doesn't support ndiswrapper, i.e. it hasn't started to support it, and therefore could not "stop" supporting it. I've made my feelings about ndiswrapper pretty clear it's a nasty hack for even nastier hardware. I have never said Gentoo 'must not support it' on the LiveCD, I've said I don't care if it's there or not.
I have also made it clear that I don't think it's fair to attempt to force developers support something they don't wish to. While it's great that you're putting together a LiveCD with ndiswrapper for testing with the intention that it might end up on the LiveCD, it still might never be put on it.
I'm quite fed up of people taking what I say way out of context and having to correct them.

Yes it does absolutely!.. You NEED a toilet for during installation, the waste has to go somewhere. I didn't respond to that because I don't like talking out of my ass. A toilet isn't a part of technology that can be put on a LiveCD, so it bares absolutely no relevance to LiveCD's at all, and *that* is a false analogy.
