This is a bug with Gconf-2.14.0. Regress back to 2.13.5 (need to version debump the 2.14.0 as it was removed from Portage) will fix this issue. _________________ You're not afraid of the dark are you? |

You can remove users using gdmsetup (su to root)
Look in the users/användare tab and click on the add button under exclude.
You can also edit /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf
And for the people looking for gnome-volume-control, it's part of gnome-media |

It needs a lot of work! One thing that needs to be fixed is how it blanks the screen. It uses a time delay to fade into blackness, then snaps back into desktop and then fades again, successfully blanking the screen. This behaviour is not normal...Aside from that it lacks options and is very basic. It works, but not very well. _________________ You're not afraid of the dark are you? |

It doesn't do that for me. It fades out and starts the screensaver as it should. |

It's strange because sometimes everthing work with gconf, and no crash. But sometimes, i just attempt to change one things, and.. crash... _________________ shortbrain.org |

Ah, thanks. Didn't think of it using the gdm list. I don't use a user list in gdm so I forgot about it |

seems like there are far fewer problems with 2.14 than there were with 2.12
back in the days of 2.12 people had lots of problems with auto mounting and crap like that. i still have problems with 2.12 (my drives not showing up on desktop and such)
i hope all this solved in 2.14. keep testing guys ...... and gals. |

Everything works fine except mounting usb stick. It shows up in computer as USB FLASH DRIVE but auto mounting fails with:
Cannot mount volume
Unable to mount the volume.
Manual mounting fails too. In 2.12. gnome manual mounting of usb stick was working but auto mounting only if i previousli go to preferences removable media and drives. I am in plugdev group and using hal with gamin.
Auto mounting of cd and dvd works.
[SOLVED] I have to compile native language support module nls_iso8859_1 In previous version of gnome nls_cp437 was enough.

I have gnome 2.14 compiled. I have the clockbar issue but I regressed back to 2.13.5 and solved it. I also have the gconf issue and I did the same to solve it. Now I have a little problem with Hal or Dbus or gnome-volume-manager I don't know
When I plug removable USB drives or DVD it mounts to /media/ but in "Computer" it doesn't appear mounted
(Sorry for my english)
EDIT: I installed dbus-0.61 and now when insert a DVD or plug an USB drive says "Cannot mount volume"
EDIT2 : I solved it creating /media/ directory and now I am in the previous situation. |

I'm seeing the same problem here, the drives auto mount successfully, but don't appear in Nauilus. Does anyone have auto mount working?
Update: Upgrading to the 2.6.15-r1 kernel solved this problem for me. _________________ Backup - The duplicate copy of crucial data that no one bothered to make; used only in the abstract.

I had to manually create /media, but now it works fine. I insert a usb stick and it shows up in Computer, gets mounted and Nautilus pops up a window with the content. I haven't tried CD/DVD.
Update: Tried a CD and a DVD. They work as they should too. |

/media is included with 2006.0, and 2005.1-r1 if I remember correctly. (Gentoo stage3 version) I don't see why you would have to manually create it unless you installed gentoo with a different version. |

I had it there before upgrading to GNOME 2.14. So I guess some package removed it when beeing unmerged during the upgrade process... |

I'm trying to install GNOME 2.14 on the Modular X.org (7.0) but there's something that blocks it!
It tries to install the Monolithic X.org (6.8.2)... someone fixed this issue? _________________ Bye,

When i try to install gnome-2.14 (after using that script to unmask the packages) i just get a bunch of blockers.
Code: | [blocks B ] gnome-base/gnome-session (is blocking gnome-base/gnome-core-1.4.2-r1)
[blocks B ] gnome-base/gnome-desktop (is blocking gnome-base/gnome-core-1.4.2-r1)
[blocks B ] x11-terms/gnome-terminal (is blocking gnome-base/gnome-core-1.4.2-r1)
[blocks B ] gnome-base/gnome-core (is blocking gnome-base/gnome-desktop-2.14.0)
[blocks B ] x11-libs/libXft (is blocking x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r6)
[blocks B ] gnome-base/gnome-core (is blocking gnome-base/gnome-session-2.14.0) |
Iam running xorg-7 so that might be the cause of the 2ed last one, but the other dont many sense.
Regards,
.Pat
Edit: fixed the gnome blockers by running emerge --sync, but i still have the libXft blocker . Would it be safe to unmerg it just for the gnome-2.14 install then re-emerge as alot of apps use it (eg firefox). |

The ebuild in portage disables it by default. Have a look at /usr/portage/x11-wm/metacity/metacity-2.14.0.ebuild and see the line G2CONF="$(use_enable xinerama) --disable-compositor" - that means metacity is compiled without composite suppport. My patch enables it if you activate the xcomposite USE flag. You'll still need to toggle the gconf key or else you won't notice anything. Gentoo disables it by default (and has since it first appeared, which was 2.8 or so) because it doesn't work on all graphics cards and is likely to crash gnome. It's a fair bit more ambitious/advanced than xcompmgr, transset and the composite extensions in kde and xfce.
Sorry, I just realised you'll need a libcm ebuild from somewhere first....I think breakmygentoo has one. |
I'm trying to enable compositor, but it seems there's an API break or something between metacity and the cvs version of libcm.

When I upgraded to 2.14 revdep-rebuild said that gaim was broken. So I rebuilt it and revdep-rebuild stopped complaining. Gaim runs fine, but when I close a chat window gaim shuts down.
If I run it from a terminal I get:
Code: | $ gaim
Gaim has segfaulted and attempted to dump a core file.
This is a bug in the software and has happened through
no fault of your own.
It is possible that this bug is already fixed in CVS.
If you can reproduce the crash, please notify the gaim
maintainers by reporting a bug at
http://gaim.sourceforge.net/bug.php
Please make sure to specify what you were doing at the time,
and post the backtrace from the core file. If you do not know
how to get the backtrace, please get instructions at
http://gaim.sourceforge.net/gdb.php. If you need further
assistance, please IM either SeanEgn or LSchiere and
they can help you.

Anyone else with the same problem?
Update: It was the gaim-otr plugin. It doesn't work after recompilation either, had to disable it.

I am currently trying to load Gnome 2.14.0 onto my laptop and wanted to know if anyone having trouble with the apps-editors/gedit-2.14.0 ebuild because for some reason I cannot install it using portage.
I have unmasked it in my package.unmask file by typing
Code: | echo "=apps-editors/gedit-2.14.0" >> /etc/portage/package.unmask |
My portage tree is up to date and the ebuild, digest file, and .tar for gedit-2.14.0 file are all in the proper locations.
So when I emerge gnome-base/gnome-2.14.0 portage tells me that I need to unmask apps-editors/gedit-2.14.0 eventhough I have it unmasked.
Also I tried emerging gedit-2.14.0 specifically by typing:
Code: | ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -av =apps-editors/gedit-2.14.0 |
but I am told that this ebuild does not exist.
I don't know if I am missing something really obvious or if there is a problem with my system but I would highly appreciate any advice.
Thank you,
