is there already an howto outthere how to update to 2.14? because my portage just tells me that there are packages but that theyre masked and i cant see them in my /etc/portage/packages/package.mask when i do emerge -uDp world it lokes like this : Code: | Calculating world dependencies /
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy ">=gnome-base/libbonoboui-2.13.1" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- gnome-base/libbonoboui-2.14.0 (masked by: package.mask)
# John N. Laliberte <allanonjl@gentoo.org> (12 Mar 2006)
# GNOME 2.14 mask. You must follow instructions here:
# for adding files from our overlay.
#Most of these packages will break/not compile because of eclass
#changes that won't be made until every package is in the tree.
#Don't unmask these and don't file bugs for them
# Start GNOME 2.14 mask
For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or

I'm not sure about this but isn't the compositing manager meant to work with the composite extension in X? If so then you just need to add this to your xorg.conf Code: | Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection

I've read on the metacity mailing list that a cvs version of xorg is required for composition to work ( so it probably won't work with currently released xorg servers ). |

Well it does work for the most part (gentoo developers should add the not included evdev patch to control-center). I have been running it since beta1 via the gnome-experimental overlay from the gentoo developers. |

Yea, I'll be spending this weekend compiling it and testing it. package.mask should hopefully be removed by Sunday and it'll hit ~arch - if not, well, I'll unmask it myself and give it a spin.
Looking forward to it, that's for sure. _________________ -PhaseBurn |

See this upstream bug report. Apparently there's a patch but it doesn't work for everybody. I don't know if the Gentoo devs are going to include the patch, though it seems like the kind of proactive thing they would do. |
Thanks! a quick overlay to control-center and it works!
So far, so good w/gnome 2.14... no compositing option yet in Metacity, but maybe i need to turn it on somehow (I hope I don't have to go through the whole xgl rigamarole...)

If you're dying to see composite support in metacity, you'll need to copy the metacity ebuild to your overlay and then modify it.
Here's a simple diff that should do the trick (you may as well apply it manually and work out what it does). My experience with composite in metacity has been crap - it doesn't really work but you could have more luck. If you don't know how to modify ebuilds then I don't advise doing this. You'll need to change a gconf key (gconftool-2 -s '/apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager' --type bool true). Also you need composite support in x11. I warn you that this could be really unsatisfactory and I haven't tried this recently. Turning the gconf key off should restore normal metacity behaviour.

Do you need to do that with 2.14? There is a gconf setting for compositing_manager according to http://www.gnome.org/~davyd/gnome-2-14/ |

ja
The ebuild in portage disables it by default. Have a look at /usr/portage/x11-wm/metacity/metacity-2.14.0.ebuild and see the line G2CONF="$(use_enable xinerama) --disable-compositor" - that means metacity is compiled without composite suppport. My patch enables it if you activate the xcomposite USE flag. You'll still need to toggle the gconf key or else you won't notice anything. Gentoo disables it by default (and has since it first appeared, which was 2.8 or so) because it doesn't work on all graphics cards and is likely to crash gnome. It's a fair bit more ambitious/advanced than xcompmgr, transset and the composite extensions in kde and xfce.
Sorry, I just realised you'll need a libcm ebuild from somewhere first....I think breakmygentoo has one. |

Hi !
Emerging the hal-20101010 ebuild (cvs version), i got this error
Code: | checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes
checking for PACKAGE... configure: error: Package requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.6.0, gobject-2.0 >= 2.6.0, dbus-glib-1 >= 0.33, dbus-1 >= 0.33, polkit >= 0.1) were not met:
No package 'polkit' found
[...]
|
I think it's relate by the Policy Kit in the freedesktop cvs rep. but i didn't see any ebuild.. link : http://webcvs.freedesktop.org/hal/PolicyKit/
I'm going to test hal-0.5.7 before trying to do a polkit-cvs ebuild..
If you solved this kind of problem, tell me :p _________________ shortbrain.org |

but it won't be put into ~arch before at least Sunday? 'cause then I don't have to emerge --sync every half an hour, desperately waiting for the mask to be removed _________________ GNU/Linux is an operating system.

Check packages.gentoo.org, then when it appears there wait a few hours before resyncing. _________________ Personal overlay | Simple backup scheme |

librsvg-2.14.2 was compiled but failed to install.
I think the ebuild should be correct.
I solved this failing with :
Code: | #gnome2_src_install plugindir=${D}/usr/$(get_libdir)/nsbrowser/plugins/ |
edit : sorry, nothing to change with the portage ebuild.. it was my the bmg-main librsvg ebuild :/ _________________ shortbrain.org |
