Hello fellow Gentooers

Just installed 2006.1 on my laptop.
uname -r gives : 2.6.17-gentoo-r8
/usr/src/linux is a symlink to /usr/src/linux-2.6.17-gentoo-r8
ls -l /etc/make.profile gives : lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 48 Nov 1 06:42 /etc/make.profile -> ../usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2006.1

Trying to 'emerge kde'. It ran for few hours and failed :
....
>>> checking kdenetwork-3.5.2.tar.bz2 ;-)
QA Notice: USE Flag 'kernel_linux' not in IUSE for kde-base/kdenetwork-3.5.2
* To support Video4Linux webcams in this package is required to have
* =x11-libs/qt-3* compiled with OpenGL support.
* Please reemerge =x11-libs/qt-3* with USE="opengl".

Then I added opengl to /etc/make.conf :
USE="alsa apm opengl"

and faithfully tried:

emerge x11-libs/qt

which ran for few hours and seemed to have merged OK. I didn't see any problematic output. However, now if I do:
emerge -pv x11-libs/qt , I get

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] x11-libs/qt-4.1.4-r2 USE="cups opengl zlib -accessibility -debug -doc -examples -firebird -gif -jpeg -mng -mysql -nas -nis -odbc -png -postgres -sqlite -xinerama" 0 kB

Total size of downloads: 0 kB

It shows [ebuild R] which doesn't make sense! It just emerged it! Why is it trying to remove it?

Since qt merge itself seems questionable..trying 'emerge kde' gives same error as above :(

Any help would be appreciated.

Dude... R means rebuild, not remove. :lol:

EDIT: There's no useflags for pictures in your system... gifs, jpegs and other thigns won't work without them.

I recommend you emerge ufed and use that to select all the useflags for your system. It may take an hour for you to wade through the huge list of flags, but in the end your system will be much better.
