I am trying to emerge phpmyadmin and it is telling me that dev-php/mod_php is blocking it as well as dev-php/php

Can I not run phpmyadmin?

At a guess, it's actually a conflict between dev-lang/php and dev-php/(mod_php, php). Posting the output of emerge would help.

Sure.. Sorry

BOOYAA MySQL # emerge phpmyadmin
Calculating dependencies ...done!

!!! Error: the dev-php/mod_php package conflicts with another package.
!!! both can't be installed on the same system together.
!!! Please use 'emerge --pretend' to determine blockers.

BOOYAA MySQL # emerge --pretend phpmyadmin

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[blocks B ] dev-php/mod_php (is blocking dev-lang/php-5.0.5-r5)
[blocks B ] dev-php/php (is blocking dev-lang/php-5.0.5-r5)
[ebuild N ] app-admin/php-toolkit-1.0-r2
[ebuild N ] dev-lang/php-5.0.5-r5
[ebuild N ] dev-db/phpmyadmin-2.7.0_p1

get an earlier version of phpmyadmin which does not require php5. As an alternate, install phpmyadmin manually, it takes five minutes. dev-php is obsolete now in portage, don't know why.
