|
|
Hi Guys,
Well I have seemd to have run into an error after completing a internet install... when I boot up an chose Gentoo, I got the error:
Quote: | UDF-fd: No Partition found (1)
XFS: bad magic number
XFS: SB validate failed
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unkown-block(1,0) |
I used genkernel to make the kernel, Also I have a Laptop HP dv5000z, the mount partiitons are dev/hda1 ext2 and /devhda3 ext3
I did not get any errors when installing Gentoo, everything went fine until, I rebooted and got this error..
Anyhelp would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi,
Do you have ext3 and ext2 compiled *in* the kernel (and *not* as modules) ?
What is the kernel command line ?
On which partition is the root filesystem ? On /dev/hda2 ? And /dev/hda1 is /boot ?
If the root is on /dev/hda2 you have to specify root=/dev/hda2 as kernel parameter.
If it is on /dev/hda1, then give root=/dev/hda1. |

Well root is on hda3 and its ext3
I would imagine that ext2 and 3xt3 have been compiled in the kernel with genkernel... as it has been done before, the only new thing here is the laptop so i am curious as to maybe it is having some problems... I can post the kernel line tomorrow as I juts shut down my latop top an am heading to bed... i also checked another thread an commented out the initrd line and that did not work either... well at least I have a grub now... As when i used te Livecd I never even got a Grub boot screen.... going back to the old way of installing helped alot more...
Anywho more info to come... when I get some rest... haven't been sleeping much lately either...haha Night Everyone

A little question... If you say it is ext3 than why is it complaining about XFS? |

Can I see the grub.conf? You appear to have the unmodified grub.conf being that the default grub.conf has the root on /dev/hdb1 which matches your error. And Kurt, when a root partition thyat does not exist is passed to the kernel it always tried to read it anyways, with every file system type, hence the UDF and XFS errors. _________________ -Shuttle SN25P, Opteron 185, 74Gb WD Raptor, 2x 300Gb Barracuda 7200.9, 2x 1Gb Corsair dual channel, BFG GeForce 7800GT
