So i'm in the market for a new motherboard and after doing some research I've concluded no one is making motherboards that are just motherboards. I really have no need for intergrated audio, video, or LAN. With that in mind, can anyone suggest a good motherboard, reasonably recent, that would work fine in my main rig. The only requirements are that it's compatible with the new AMD chips. I'll also take a board with intergrated components if it's not terribly hard to get working properly under gentoo.

equilian,

I've just got an A7N8X Delux. It was about £5 more expensive then the standard one. It supports the 400MHz FSB (nForce2) and has onboard everything except video. Also dual channel DDR memory.

I haven't tried the Firewire or SATA but everything else works with Gentoo.

It will *only* accept an 8X AGP card, so you may need a new video card.

Onboard everything is the way the world is going. the only thing I would avoid is onboard video that uses shared memory for the pixel buffer.

sound cards are sound cards in linux (as in no fancy features supported for the most)
as with lan

so if its intergrated and works and cheeper it cant be bad ;/

I've recently bought an A7N8X-Deluxe, it works fine with my AGP 4x Geforce 4MX (with AGP 8x disabled in the BIOS), though I'm gonna get an FX 5600 soon.
And I'm glad I got rid of my network card and of my SB Live

More seriously, changing the mobo nuked windoze but Gentoo worked, though I had to recompile the kernel (to enable ultradma and the 3com) and emerge nforce-net.

I've had good luck with a couple of boxes with via chipset gigabyte boards. Both the 7VTHX+ and 7VAX have worked fine.

Not true - if so, why does a 4x (GF4Ti4200) card work in my NF7-S? :)

Odin,

Bummer. I misread the spec sheet. Its 1.5v AGP cards only.
I bought a new video card when I got the bits to make my system and probably didn't need to.
