This has happened to me a few times with a infra-red mouse and i always thought it was something about the infra-red.
In time that mouse.... got "killled" and i decided to use a regular mouse.

The problem still happened.

Code:
psmouse.c: Wheel Mouse at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost synchronization, throw
ing 3 bytes away

what happens is that without any warnings my mouse just loses control and the workspaces start to "flip" all together with it.
its like an hyper "scroll" of mouse selections .
It also happens during a game. the mouse just goes "crazy"

any ideas?

I had a similar problem. Some times in first person shooters I would, all of the sudden, be looking either directly up or directly down and spinning as fast as possible. With the same mouse in a regular working environment, sometimes the cursor would have what I can only call spasms and shaking violently across the screen. It was because the mouse itself was crappy, no software was at fault.

My optical mouse does exactly the same thing. If the processor is being stressed - it simply goes crazy. Dont' move it. Just let it be until whatever the processor is doing calms down. I"ve had two different optical mouses (mice) and the same thing happens. Recommendation: go for the usual ps mouse and clean the ball regularly!

That's my very *unexpertly* advice. :)

whatever a "regular" mouse is. I read that to be one with a cable connection, presumably still optical.

I find optical mice can behave badly on certain backgrounds, I now work on a sheet of A4 that I bin when it gets grubby.

If your task switching is so slow that you're missing mouse events you could look at using a non std patch set. That was one of the big advantages I saw when I started using nitro-sources back around 2.6.9 but I think the difference is less marked now since gentoo-sources are now based on mmsources AFAIK.

regular mouse : http://www.bris.ac.uk/is/selfhelp/documentation/mouse-t2/mouse-t2-3.gif

So... frist was the infra red mouse failing, then i used a "regular mouse" that also went crazy from the minute i pluged it
and now i am using another "regular" mouse. Its an HP M-S48 and it seems to be working without problems.

this might be just a crapy mouse hardware issue.
I will confirm later .

I wasn't being sarcastic , I was suggesting you use a more precise term than regular.

Regular is an american expression that translates to "normal" in English.

What is a normal mouse?

It's more relevant to this issue whether it is COM1, PS/2, USB or cordless . The gif you posted would probably eliminate the latter.

It does sound more like an IO drop out so it would be useful to know how it is connected .

I belive its "crapy" hardware problem only.

I have been using this other mouse for quite a while now and the issue has not happend so far.

Solution : get a good mouse.

this is a known problem with Belkin KVM switches...I'm having the same problem.

There is a patch for 2.6.11, however it seems to be broken again (and the patch doesn't work) with 2.6.16-r7.
