|
|
I would like to know if anyone out there has ever successfully gotten a SCSI CD recorder working with HAL. Both my reader and recorder are on the scsi bus. I don't have any problem with the reader, but if I put a CD in the writer, my computer will freeze up.
The only way I can use my writer is to stop HAL and then use cdrecord. Either K3B or XCDRoast will freeze my system, even if both HAL and DBUS are terminated.
My guess is because SCSI CD readers are so rare now that not to many driver hackers can test their code on them. I think this will give me a good excuse to get a new computer.
My system consist of:
- aic7xxx scsi driver
- hal 0.5.5.1-r3
-dbus 0.60-r4
- kernel gentoo-source 2.6.15-r1
- KDE 3.4.3
- pmount 0.9.6
- ivman 0.6.8
If someone has a similar configuration working, I will try more experimentation with mine.

Thanks for the answer. (it worked)
I thought that I might have a problem in getting a 2.6.13 kernel, but luckily you can still emerge them using the vanilla kernel category.
Hopefully this might be resolved in the 2.6.16 series. |

Hmm, I didn't know about the vanilla-kernel category. I took an old install cd, but removed ebuilds from the gentoo-sources category are still in CVS (not too easy to copy...).
Here SCSI + HAL is buggy, but I'm not sure what to blame. With most home burned ISO cd's, no new medium popup and icon appears. |
