hey all,
so i've had this problem before after a fresh install but am not sure how to fix it( somehow after reinstalling it it works in previous attempts). so im installing from a 2005.1 universal on an x86. i have dhcpcd installed and resolv.conf is correct. when i boot up i get the error "eth0 does not exist, netmount was not started" this is with dhcp and a fallback. any suggestions?
btw im installing kernal 2.6.15-r1 gentoo sources
thanks

I assume you haven't selected the right driver for your network card in the kernel configuration, or, if it is built as a module, you haven't load it.
Also there're two things you should consider when posting in this forum:
1. Include as much information as you can. Statements as "My Network card doesn't work" or similiar are not very helpfull. So you should at least post what your network card is and what you've tried so far.
2. Alot of problems are already discussed and so you can often get a fast solution by sing the forums search.

sorry,
my network card is onboard and the cd loaded:
Intel corporation 02562EZ 10/100 Ethernet Controller (rev 02)
during configuration i didn't see any drivers listed as that so i assumed that what was already checked would work.

Now I haven't found anything about your NIC on this forum nor using google , are you sure you have spell it right?
Also if I understand right, the problem doesn't exist with an already installed gentoo, but when booting the Universal CD, right? If so, have you tried another LiveCD (e.g. knoppix, ...)? You can use any LiveCD to install gentoo.

okay, i resolved the issue. the problem was occuring with a freshly installed gentoo from a 2005.1 universal cd. I recompiled the kernel with the intel pro/100+ driver wich solved the problem.
