I don't know about you, but I've always been looking for a way to get KDE applications such as KWrite, Kate oder Konsole running under OSX. I've heard about fink and that it offers kde applications running under X11, but that is not really what you want, is it?
I've come across a site called http://kde.opendarwin.org/ where you can download pre-Alpha builds of KDE 3.2 for Jaguar. I've installed the required packages (kdelibs, arts, kdesupport), kdebase and koffice. I haven't done any thorough testing so far, but as it appears the kde applications work pretty nicely under native OSX. For the first time, I have a decent editor and terminal application under OSX (Terminal.app is a disease at time...).
On http://wiki.kde.org/tiki-index.php?page=Building+KDE%2FMac+from+Source you can find build instructions for KDE on OSX. Writing ebuilds is not one of my strenghts, and compiling huge packages is not one of iBook's strengths. Nonetheless, it would be cool to compile KDE 3.5.1 for OSX and put some more effort in its development. So, is here anyone who at least write an ebuild for qt-free-mac? Anyone else with a powerful machine who is willing to give it a try compiling the newest KDE release? |
