I installed timidity++ following the ALSA-Gentoo Guide, and I can play midi files with timidity, but when I start Rosegarden, I got the following error:
Quote:

The Rosegarden sequencer could not be started,
so sound and recording will be unavailable for this
session.
...

How can I configure Rosegarden to use the timidity virtual sequencer?
At boot I see that the virtual midi sequencer is started, but i don't see it anywhere.
If I type aplaymidi -l, I don't see any ports.
Did I forgot to configure something?

are you running timidity with the -iA switch?

i use rosegarden with timidity on my laptop (the desktop has hardware midi) and i don't remember that there was anything tricky about it...so long as timidity is running in alsa server mode, rosegarden works much as it does with hardware midi. the only difference is a tiny amount of lag, which is slightly annoying...the audio is just a fraction of second behind the vertical bar that's supposed to indicate what notes (of the score) are being played.

But where can I set timidity to start with the -iA switch.
I mean that I want timidity to start at boot time in ALSA server mode.

You can set it in /etc/conf.d/timidity, then do "/etc/init.d/timidity start" and "rc-update add timidity default".

I personaly like FluidSynth/Qsynth better than timidity. You might want to give it a try.
