I just installed beagle for the first time (app-misc/beagle-0.2.3) I followed the instructions on the Beagle website and gentoo beagle howto. I am using ext3 with user_xattr and inotify is turned on in the kernel (2.6.15-gentoo-r7).

The problem is if I do a search for something say "gentoo", beagle will return 10 results.
If I create a new file and type "gentoo" in it and save, the new file instantly shows up in the results list.
If I remove the word gentoo from the file, it disappears from the results list.
Now the strange part. If I click "Find now" again in the beagle search window the new (now empty) file is shown to have gentoo in it. If I reboot and do a new search for "gentoo" the file shows up. If I delete the file it will not show up, but if I create a new file with the same name it shows up as containing the term "gentoo".

I imagine this has to do with the beagle database not getting updated properly. I deleted the database (rm -r ~/.beagle/) and started fresh but it is still not updating properly.

Thanks for any help.

Do you have "beagled" running?

This is strange.

It is only doing it with things edited in gedit, not openoffice or nano..

I don't have the autosave feature in gedit turned on, or the "Create a backup copy of files before saving" option.

Any thoughts?
