recommend a good application font

At the moment I am using Bitstream Vera Sans and it looks good, but I was wondering if there is a font that is a bit 'thicker'. I tried Lucida Grande, but it does not look as good as it does on a mac.

How about Nimbus?

Thanks, I only have a Nimbus L Sans, which is too much like Bitstream Vera Sans. Was that the one you're talking about?
I like it though, a bit more character than bitstream

When I say thicker, I mean a little bolder than usual.
