Hi,
I compiled my kernel with ALSA support and I compiled my sound card driver as a module(snd-hda-intel). alsaconf recognizes the card and I ask it to use it. It created alsasound in /etc/init.d. Well all was going well until I had to test my sound card using cat /dev/urandom>/dev/dsp. It compliains: /dev/dsp: no such device. But /dev/dsp exists. Also, there is no sound directory in my /dev/ directory. How do I enable this?
Thanks. |

Did you run modules-update after using alsaconf? Did you load the drivers by using /etc/init.d/alsasound start and no errors were shown? After having success in the previous step, do you have the directory /dev/snd/ and /dev/sound/?
You can try checking the alsa guide (if not checked) and try those instructions for the kernel drivers. If you still have problems, you can try the alsa-driver method. |
