Hello,
After the release of Cedega 5.1 I have decided to roll another personal Gentoo Box for gaming. No, this isn't a gaming question. What I would like to know is the state of Dual Core support in the Linux Kernel.
I have a X2 3800+ w/ 2gig of ram, 7800GT, and Audigy 2 ZS. I also have a Barton 2800+, 512mb ram, 6800 NU, and Sound Blaster Live!
I know for fact Gentoo runs smooth on 2800+ and could do what I want. However, I rather have the big rig do what I need. How good is Dual Core support in the latest linux kernel. I am about 2 months out of date on Gentoo and X2 since I have MSDN and been running XP SP2 on most of my Desktops ( Linux is still numero uno on my servers but been running unattended for said months. )
PS : I would be running pure 32bit on the X2. |

Dual Core is supported by the Linux kernel, if you enable SMP.
You really should install the 64 bit version of Gentoo. Works much faster!

Yes, dual core, and multiple cpu's works flawlessy. Maybe even up to 256 without any problem. (not sure about that)
I'm recommending 64 bit too. |

I have gentoo 64 for the opteron. Correct me if I am wrong but I am not convinced that a desktop install that will be running Cedega and Wine and DVD stuff is quite primetime for gentoo for amd64. |

Good to know... maybe I will hit it up 64bit first. Guess it doesn't hurt to try it. |
