|
|
When I boot the computer the DVD dma is ON
hdparm -d /dev/hdc
using_dma = 1 (on)
I'm able to copy the DVD when I boot the computer (amd64) with "cat" or "dd" but I can not repeat the process for the second time (diff verification is showing no errors so the ISO files are OK),
Whenever I try to make a second copy with:
dd if=/dev/hdc of=filename.iso
or
cat /dev/hdc filename.iso
eject /dev/hdc
Second DVD copy fails with "dd" or "cat" every time (DVD is 4.1Gb not encrypted) and "dma" resets itself to OFF state whenever I eject the DVD and reinsert.
I think the DMA is resetting itself to OFF state during copying and it causes the copy to fail.
I'm able to copy the DVD when I boot the computer (amd64) with "cat" or "dd" but I can not repeat the process for the second time (diff verification is showing no errors so the ISO files are OK),
I can change the dma back to ON with: hdparm -d 1 /dev/hdc but as soon as I try to copy the DVD with "dd" or "cat" copy fails every time and the "dma" resets itself to OFF upon "eject".
In addition I can not kill the "dd" process, the DVD keeps blinking without responding for another 15 to 20min.
I'm on kernel-2.6.15
I've run onto two or three similar message via Google but no answer. |

Good pointer, I'm not alone :-/
But setting the DMA back ON does not help me as I'm getting:
/dev/hdc: Input/Output error
whenever I try to "dd" or "cat" |

Check your cables, a lot of my IDE problems were caused by bad cables. _________________ Desktop: AMD Athlon64 3800+ Venice Core, 2GB PC3200, 2x160GB 7200rpm Maxtor DiamondMax 10, 2x320GB WD 7200rpm Caviar RE, Nvidia 6600GT 256MB

I've changed the DVD cable but it did not help.
When I boot the computer (amd64) the DVD DMA is "ON"
[quote]using_dma = 1 (on)
At this point I can make as many copies as I want using commands "dd" or "cat" but I can not issue eject command
As soon as I eject the CD the status of DMA is changing on the DVD
using_dma = 0 (off)
And at this point make no difference if I change that status back to "ON" or not every subsequent DVD copy fails. |
