9hrs and not yet installed take 2

Can i play say wam or mp3 files from the windows partition during install to pass away time.how to access them

Sorry if this is the wrong forum,i couldn't find th right one ,pls help me.
Since i am a noob to linux ,i read all the manuals with greatest sincerity read the help at all steps,Now i start my install.In gtk+ The top bar shws working and the bottom bar shows preparing,I turn off the monitor at 9.55 pm.Next morning at 7 am i turn on the monitor and it's the same thing.No hard drive busy light or noise.No cd drive bsy light .How long for the install.I have a d drive which i formatted as fat32,In options i chose delete d partition and used recommended .Please tell me if everythn is in order and how long will it take.I would have let it run,but i didn't know if all was well.
Extremely sorry ,but this is my first encounter with linux.Ppl said i should try another easy distro like ubuntu first,But i have decided to go with gentoo despite the step learning curve coz i know that i can get help with the forums,pls help me.
I have an amd athlonxp 2200+,so i chose athlon xp in processor type,I have 384 mb ram
of which 32 is used by my video card.Pls tell me how long does it take?

I even tried command line,but it jus shows installing with no progress in the progress bar.I selected everything for install,but the hard drive busy light wasnt glowin as i said.Pls help me
