Hi all.
I'm updating a system, and part way through the update, everything has coming to a grinding halt
It's a reiser4 system. I just updated glibc to 2.4, and switched from linux-threads to nptl and nptlonly, and I'm recompiling everything. It got up to emerging kernel sources again ( emerge -s world ), and it's taken more than 24 hours to just move the files from /var/tmp/portage to /usr/src. It's not using any CPU during all this, and it's a relatively recent system ( 2.6 Ghz Pentium 4 ) with PLENTY of room ( 18GB ) on the disk. What's going on? I've not been brave enough to reboot yet, as I'm not sure that I've recompiled everything I need against the new nptl-only glibc. Has anyone else seen astronomical slowdowns after updating to glibc-2.4? |

No, I mean for your 24 hour emerge of gentoo-sources! |

Ah. So it only affects kernel sources or something? Is this temporary? Clash between glibc-2.4 and reiser4? |

There is another thread in this forum about the same topic:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-436722-highlight-.html
I have noticed that scanelf adds something like 12 minutes to my emerge gentoo-sources... |
