Ok,
So I decided to finally get a dedicated server going. The computer has and Intel R Pro 100 ethernet card. I know I put it in. I even see the e100 flash as the system starts to boot. Then part way through I get the error:
Cannot default to dhcp as there is no dhcp module loaded
no configuration for eth0
error problem starting needed services
netmount was not started.
I get this error message even if I have a static ip coniguration set. The only difference is that it changes to eth0 does not exist. I know my kernel has the correct ethernet driver.
Any help would be appreciated. |

I said.. "If i set a static IP it comes back with eth0 does not exist" This is a server dhcp will not help me. I have something goofed up in the kernel somewhere. |

I use the e100 as well. My card is Intel Corporation 82562ET/EZ/GT/GZ - PRO/100.
This is the line from .config
You will want to double check your "/etc/conf.d/net" to make sure the correct settings are there as well.

There is a sticky post at the top of this forum that describes basically the same problem. I believe that because i used the hardened kernel source the Network options in the kernel were not automatically turned on. I'll check on this when i get home at 1am and let ya know. |

The gentoo hardened Network options dont include netlink device emulation. I believe this may be the cause of my nic throwing an error at boot. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I need to enable in the Hardened sources to get my Intel R Pro 100 nic working.. Again setting a static ip throws the error "eth0 does not exist" even though the driver will load |

I hate myself. I was building 2 computers at the time I made this one. It has the Linksys 100 ethernet card.. aka tulip driver. Not the intel driver. Uhg. Recompile.. Working. Thanks to all that offered support |
