Hey,
When I switch from using a terminal (console) to X (mine is KDE). I see the desktop, but it is locked for about a second and a half and then it is usable. Anyone else experiencing a pause like this when switching. It gets quite annoying because I do a lot of work from the terminal and need to switch KDE often.

Any help would be appreciated,

Why don't you just use a terminal emulator? Have it in full-screen mode on one of the KDE workspaces. That delay is normal, and I don't think there's really much you can do about it.

It just doesn't feel the same. I also need many terminals.
I am going to try fluxbox and see if I run into the same problem.

Use a terminal emulator with tabs. Most of them do that. As to the delay, it isn't the desktop you're using, so much as the fact that you're switching to the normal console for input and output, and the drivers are different from X. If you run something graphical on the console, like the links browser, you'll notice you can switch to another VT pretty quick, just like you switch desktops in X quickly.

Your going to run into the same problem. I recommend trying to use a full screen application if you want switch between the GUI and the console. If you use a lot of terminals at once, I recommend using GNU Screen. I use it all the time and I can detach on the GUI side and bring everything back up in console without closing everything down.
