I just upgraded KDE 3.5.0 to KDE 3.5.1 and since I did that KDM isn't working anymore. It's started using a rc-script in runlevel default.

The KDM screen shows up fine, but when I enter my password and click login it looks like the X-server is restarted, the screen goes blank for a second and then I get back to the KDM login screen.

From /var/log/kdm.log:
Code:

X Window System Version 6.8.2

I don't know if the last 2 messages are related but it's the only thing I can find. If I use GDM instead of KDM, KDE starts fine, but I'd rather use KDM since I can click on users instead of typing names and I just like QT better than GTK.

Any clues?

Does anything positive occur when you delete /usr/kde/3.5/share/config/kdm/kdmrc ?

Err, that had the effect that I couldn't even select KDE anymore and I got a bunch of errors. But then I tried deleting the entire /usr/kde/3.5/share/config/kdm/ directory and re-emerging kdm, and that worked! It's all back to normal now! Thanks
