This is the output that get's repeated about 15 times or so when I run dmesg:
Code: | ATAPI device hdb:
Error: Not ready -- (Sense key=0x02)
Incompatible medium installed -- (asc=0x30, ascq=0x00)
The failed "Read Cd/Dvd Capacity" packet command was:
"25 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 "
|
It looks to me like there is a problem with my cd/dvd, but I don't know where to begin to fix it. Anyone have any thoughts that might help me out?
Thanks
Sean |

You may try booting with/without medium in the drive. Although I have heard of something like this before I am just guessing right now. |

SeanMorris > I have the same problem on my freshly installed gentoo 2006.0
Did you find a solution ?
I think I'll first get X installed and then worry about that |

I made a quick search on google and found this :
http://www.humboldt.edu/~te8/misc/hpzd8230us.html
Basically, hal (via coldplug ?) could be the fault...
Too tired to do it now - I'll try it tomorrow |

DO you use KDE?
'Cause i install two graphical interfaces (KDE and Fluxbox). When I use kde, my logs show me error likes:
Quote: | ATAPI device hdc:
error: Not ready -- (Sense Key=0x02)
Incompatible medium installed -- (asc=0x30, ascq=0x00)
The failed "Read subchannel" packet command was:
"42 02 40 01 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 00 00 00 00"
|
And When i log on fluxbox everything works fine. I guess this error is related with kdebase-kioslave, but i not sure!
OBS.: I remove hal and dbus and compile my kde without hal flag and i still have this error when i use kde |
