First to clarify the Ati card as described by lshw

Now what I do have working

1.-- 1 desktop in Xfce or Kde - has opacity/transparancey adjustment with CTRL+ALT scroll wheel
2.-- In Xfce I can move a window the old fashioned way but kde will not let move a window for nothing

Thats it.

My Query/hope is that others with this card - have full or least more success, with some wm or another and can provide some hints/ troubleshooting techniques.

EDIT: Awsome mistake

One of the odd? things about my system is when running xgl in screen 1 , it pops up a window in screen 0 , not really sure why , maybe because of my 32 bit chroot. The good thing I can test xgl from my regular x-server.

Which seems to work, I have everything I did in xfce except the fonts are not as crisp as xfce, but this is NOT the awesome part. I did some performace tests in Xglx (while in X) -
glxinfo in xgl said no direct rendering , however glxgears seemed acclerated (reporting faster fps than in X) , that seemed to be a lie so I tried NWN
and had FULL performace. Hmmm maybe cause I'm on X's back -- I thought this is how xgl worked anyway right you still need several hundred files for xorg 7 and just one more for xgl.

Compiling was just as fast as ever.

Long story short this baby is smoking.

PS - To get zoom (since I cant get gconf to play with me, I guess that is strickly gnome ?)

The above code seemed to kick things in
1- got wobbly
2- got cube spin
3- my console will follow around the cube for (at least 1 face)
4- Move
5- Resize
6- Cube wrap thing
7- Window following me around cube
8- Cube manual move


----- So I can say partially functional on this vid card , seems fully functional except I cant seem to figure out how to configure compiz fully without
gconf. So I'm not sure if zoom is functional cause the superkey does seem active ,

I have exactly the same vga on my notebook.
I emerged Xgl with xgl-coffee overlay and everything works fine for some minutes, have the full compiz plugins plus opacity working but...after some time, all freezes very badly...all that remains is to shutdown the notebook completly.
Wobbly, Cube, trasparencies... all works (reporting no Direct Rendering, but it works...even the mplayer -vo gl2...).

If you have a less functional but stable setup, could you please post your xorg.conf?

I havn't frozen once xgl starts, I am using it completly from a script so as not to mess with my original. I also cannot change screens when either
X or Xgl. Thers is no (CTRL+ALT (F1-F12) ) , and I am suspicious of this xorg.conf for that reason. I also only use my mouse not the touchpad, hence the mouse1 instead of mice in the input section. I also use another xorg.conf for when I start the tv out if your interested though I havn't experimented with it on the Xgl yet.
I think I got everything you got working, yes even NWN when "direct rendering = no ". Did you get the top .png to load ?
I do see the background load, which is overwritten by kdes background " go figure" , but nothing on top , I've only tried a 512x512 png so far.

I can not use the gconf plugin for nothing are you using that , is that stricty to config gnome users? If your using it maybe it is the problem.
