Console lose font settings

Hi,

I'm having problems with setting fonts on the console (virtual terminals). They are set via the usual route (/etc/init.d/consolefont), and initially they set perfectly, but when changing to X and then back to the console the consoles have lost the font settings. Running /etc/init.d/consolefont restart, fixed the problem temporarily. But, as soon as I flip to X and then back to the console the font settings disappear again!

Has any body got any ideas?

(If it's any help I'm running ~x86 on a Intel 82852/855GM based laptop).
