hello there

I simply want to use my emacs with my term, xterm, but! I want to use utf-8 so I can get all my special characters (im danish) and so I can see what the others is writing (Im also using erc in my emacs) But I have problems converting my system. I have emerged uxterm, and it is working almost perfectly. I can write my special characters in the term, and in my emacs, but when I try to use the M-x I get a one of my special characters thrown after me.
I have tried to follow,

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/guide-localization.xml#doc_chap3_sect3
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/utf-8.xml

but I just fucked my system up (pretty bad). So. Can any of you give some advice on how to work around this problem, or maybe where to look to sort it out?
