Various Acer Travelmates have problems with ACPI and APICs. In particular, many of them won't boot Linux without "noapic" on the command-line (or a patched kernel).
Just a quick post to point out that kernel 2.6.16 now contains a work-round for the APIC boot problem, so it should now be possible to boot various models without the "noapic" option. The problem was that the BIOS tells the kernel it has two APICs for some reason, and this caused the kernel to crash when it found out there's only one - but now this is worked around in the latest kernel.
Also, alsa-driver-1.0.11-rc3 now supports the Agere modem fitted to some Travelmates (on my (UK) 8100, at least) - dial-up networking works at last! |
