can't get synaptics, pcmcia to work in kernel-2.6.15

I upgraded from 2.6.12 to 2.15 and there are two problems.

1) I tried the new pcmcia system, and it does not seem to recognise my nic. It's a dell-branded 3com 3c575. I included as built-ins both 3com pcmcia options.

2) synaptics doesn't work. I'm typing from my 2.6.12 installation, where I have xorg and e-17, my touch pad works fine. when I boot 2.6.15, there is a pointer, but it does not move.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
