I ran a etc-update to update my config files and I know I never touched /etc/mysql/my.cnf but now mysql wont start. Here is everything that I can think to show you.
If I try to start it from the command line.
Code: | threemileisland mysql # /usr/bin/mysqld_safe
Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql
STOPPING server from pid file /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid
060327 12:42:05 mysqld ended |
Here is the little clip from the error log.
Code: | InnoDB: Error: log file ./ib_logfile0 is of different size 0 8388608 bytes
InnoDB: than specified in the .cnf file 0 5242880 bytes!
060327 12:42:05 [ERROR] Can't init databases
060327 12:42:05 [ERROR] Aborting
060327 12:42:05 [Note] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Shutdown complete |
Thanks for your time.

A quick google found this thread on the mysql forums, it sounds a little extreme though (you probably want to back up your data before trying):

Thanks for the link. I feel sheepish that I didn't find that myself tho. However maybe this will help anyone else having the problem.
I just renamed /var/lib/mysql/ib_logfile0, /var/lib/mysql/ib_logfile1, to /var/lib/mysql/ib_logfile0.old, /var/lib/mysql/ib_logfile1.old, restarted mysql and everything worked like a charm.
