Hi all... i've installed hal, dbus, pmount and gnome-volume-manager... the problem is that all drivers is mounted correctly at boot but if i try to unmount, for exemple, my usb key and unplug it, then, when i connect another time, only appears the usb key icon's in computer:/// (with no icon on my desktop) and i must double click on the device icon to mount it. If i restart X all work well...
How can i fix this? It's a bug?

Ps:sorry for my english... i'm italian

There is a great howto in http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/kde-config.xml

The steps you should follow are:
Code:
# emerge --noreplace dbus hal
# rc-update add dbus default
# rc-update add hald default
Add <user> to the plugdev group
# gpasswd -a <user> plugdev

You can use ivman for automounting.

Code:
# emerge --noreplace ivman
# rc-update add ivman default

Hope that helps... :D

i tried this way but ivman don't work on gnome... in computer:/// there are only filesystem ad network icons... not other devices but i can access them from /media directory... this is the only way with ivman... i tried also supermount but i understood that i can't automount usb keys... If i try to start ivman this is the error:
Code:
 Ikke's Volume Manager, http://ivman.sf.net
10334: arguments to dbus_message_new_method_call() were incorrect, assertion "path != NULL" failed in file dbus-message.c line 1723.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-BUS library.
libhal.c 1856 : Couldn't allocate D-BUS message

but in otherway hal+dbus+pmount+gnome-volume-manager should work... but it doesn't... why?

I'm not quite sure about your problem. If I were you I would remerge hal, dbus, pmount and gnome-volume-manager again. Maybe you'll find this link usefull http://www.gentoo.ro/proj/en/desktop/gnome/howtos/gnome-2.12-upgrade.xml

Also, run
Code:
gnome-volume-properties
from the command line and make sure that everything is as it should be.

Good luck

i emerged these packages many times but nothing happen... i read also that page and I haven't solved my problem... in any way the problem is that if i restart X after the boot, automount work well. But if I try to plug an usb key or a cdrom after the boot, without restarting X, on my desktop don't appears the usb key, and i must mount it by double clicking the icon that appears in computer after i plugged in my key...
becouse of my english is too bad i post some screen shoot:

after boot without restarting X, my "Creative MuVo Tx" is in computer:/// but not on desktop:
Screenshot 1

after double click it in computer:///:
Screenshot 2

If i restart X when i plug in my Muvo tx all work well: the icon appear on my desktop and nautilus automatically open the device directory (all like second screenshot).

I have the same problem with g-v-m 1.5.4... I tried to upgrade to 1.5.15 (which no more uses pmount, but another program called gnome-mount) and it works perfectly. I think it's a bug.
Bye
