when i install xawtv,it first install openmotif,but this error message go out:

Tech: I have no idea how to help you there, but I do know there are other programs you can use to watch tv. For example, I use zapping, but you can also use mplayer or another program. - Andrew

Check your /etc/localtime... make sure that it exists (and preferably points to a specfic time zone).

I had forgotten to symlink the timezone, and hit the same problem as you (xfree 4.3...).

Either way, adding the symlink solved it quite nicely for me.
