Hi,
I'am a newbie to gentoo (not to linux) and I have problems emerging kdelibs.
last night i emerged gnome and was (nearly) happy. I managed most of my Problems but then
i tried to emerge xmms - which again needs kdebase
This was the error:

sigints indicates in general an instable linux system.
play around with your kernel configuration, as i did, when i got the sigint 11 during kde compilation.
it showed that apm should be disabled
good luck! |

Hy,
thanks for your answer.
I compiled new 2.4.19-r1 kernels with different options but the problems during compiling the kdelibs are the same. My last try was to take a 2.4.17 kernel (i used this one on the same machine with suse 7.2) but no chance same error
The system seems to be stable by the way - i compiled X, gnome, severals times the kernel und lots of other things im using (tex, gs, ghostview, ...)
I'm afraid that my problem is related to kde or perhaps g++ in combination with my PII 266 Laptop.
May it help to use other settings in make.conf?
I alredy played aronud with the -O option in the makefiles - same effect.
Any further ideas?
Thx Olaf
P.S. please excuse my englisch i've forgotten a lot since i left school 15 years ago. |

Hi out there,
blame on me
the fault was that my swap wasn't big enough- only 128Mb of ram and 50Mb swap seems to not enough to compile the kdelibs. BUT I learned many things about gentoo
And - a big thank to the gentoo-Folk !
Bye

I typically use double the amount of the ram I have for swap, so for you 128MB of ram then swap would be 256MB. I have currently upgraded my ram though to 512MB and have found that at that much ram the swap can be equal to it, so I have a 512MB swap partition.
Hope that helps,
