my wireless card (eth0) doesn't show up when i type ifconfig
my ethernet card (eth1) does

when i type lspci it seems to recognize that there is an intel pro wireless card

on my first install eth0 used to show up ifconfig, but i decided to use genkernel instead of manually configuring
so i decided to start over from scratch. apparently, the second time the (minimal) cd didn't catch it,
and now that i've installed everything it still doesn't know i guess because i used the cd's config file

i'm installing on a dell inspiron e1505, but i have an intel pro wireless card not broadcom
i used genkernel to compile

how can i fix this?

also, does anyone know where i can get the hardware info like the laptop monitor's horizontal sync rate?

Have you loaded the wireless modules ?

Code:
modprobe ipw2200 or ipw2100 depending of which you have

Just because it doesn't show up on ifconfig doesn't mean its not recongnised.

Also another to becareful of is everytime you build a new kernel you should reemerge your wireless drivers.

Code:
emerge ipw2200/ipw2100

hm it doesn't seem to work
i use the intel pro 3945 wireless 802.11
i found out that the drivers are still in development
i tried manually downloading and installing them
and when i load them, it doesn't work

i might've installed it incorrectly
i checked the firmware directory at the hotplug agent and it was /lib/firmware
so i put my ucode there, which doesn't seem to load

the debug message from the load says that my device is not detected
which is odd because it is in the computer
and the dmesg says that it can't find the ucode, which, to me, seems to be in the right directory

when i do ifconfig, eth0 doesn't show up at all
when i do iwconfig, it shows up saying no wireless extensions
