I just upgrade Kernel from 2.6.14.6 to 2.6.16.1 and got problems with my Radeon 9000 card.
On 14.6 and ati-drivers 8.14.13-r4 from portage everything works OK. After upgrading kernel (the same config) and reemerging ati-drivers I got after inserting module:

Code:

FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.16.1/video/fglrx.ko): Uknown symbol in module, or uknown paramater (see dmesg)

dmesg:
Code:

kernel: fglrx: unknown symbol inter_module_unregister
kernel: fglrx: unknown symbol inter_module_get_request
kernel: fglrx: unknown symbol verify_area
kernel: fglrx: unknown symbol inter_module_put
kernel: fglrx: unknown symbol inter_module_register

I tried also newer ati-drivers ebuild always got uknown symbols. Anybody can help with this? I must use ati-driver because using them I got also signal on TVOut.

Sometimes when this happens to me I just, run the ATi installer alone , of course messing up all your links but then
run emerge ati-drivers again.

So somehow I get a decent fglrx build and then reset the links thru emerging -- which seems to lie sometimes about building fglrx successfully

I do the same thing with my nvidida sometimes . Does seem to have something to do with kernel
