PCMCIA-cs question

I'm trying to get my wireless PCMCIA card up and running, but pcmcia-cs reports this:

I've messed with the kernel config quite a bit, but have driven myself into confusion... it's a wireless pc card... I am clueless now what to enable into the kernel and what not to.. I could get it to work perfectly in Slackware just with kernel modules, but have never messed with this card services thing in gentoo...

it was my fault, pcmcia-cs is running like a champ (other than those dang airo 'taint the kernel' messages ).. anyway, net.eth1 is not starting up properly.. I can do a 'dhcpcd eth1' from the command prompt (as root), and it works beautifully (in fact I'm posting this through the wireless card), but that's a (more or less) 'rigged' way of doing it, right? Shouldn't the net.eth1 script work? In /etc/conf.d/net I have iface1 setup for dhcp, but the net.eth1 script reports it failed... should I just remove the net.eth1 script from the runlevel and add 'dhcpcd eth1' to the local startup script? That would work.. just not the way it's supposed to..

I think a look at your conf file could help, knowing what the error is could be usefull too.

Normally you should have something like this in your conf file :

iface_eth1="dhcp" and nothing else under iface_eth1.
Double check that you did not forget to comment a static IP declaration that would also begin by iface_eth1=
Make also sure that PCMCIA is started before the script is launched (sounds obvious, but it is quite frequently the cause) . And I think you neeed to uncomment/add

what do you mean by inittab? I looked in that file, but didn't see anything that (looked) like it would apply to this situation.. I think what you're saying (about the pc card not being ready for dhcpcd) is most likely what's going on as the other things you suggested check out ok.. is having 'dhcpcd eth1' in the local.start script a bad thing??

Sorry it is my bad habit to consider inittab as a flexible and easy to use startup script. Basically all I was saying is that if everything else fails just go for the startup script.
My way to do this would be to had a line in inittab, but feel free to do wathever you want. After all TIMTOWTDI
