|
|
My clock is constantly getting behind, so much that I have to reset the time at least once a day. I know about installing NTP and am going to, but the clock is getting way too far off way too quickly. Anyway, the following message appears in /var/log/messages and in dmesg:
Code: |
Losing too many ticks!
TSC cannot be used as a timesource.
Possible reasons for this are:
You're running with Speedstep,
You don't have DMA enabled for your hard disk (see hdparm),
Incorrect TSC synchronization on an SMP system (see dmesg).
|
Can anypoint point me on where to go? I do have -d1 in my /etc/conf.d/hdparms, so DMA should be enabled. |

Then are you in one of the following conditions?

The first is if you have a pentium 4m, or a pentium m (centrino); the second if you have more than one processor, or a dual core processor.

I'm running a 2.4Ghz Celeron, so everything is built for Pentium4, but not Pentium4 M. It's not dual-core and there are not multiple chips in the box. |

Then check if your dma is really on:
Code: | # hdparm -d /dev/hda
/dev/hda:
using_dma = 1 (on) |
Anyway, maybe you should activate HPET in your kernel (Processor type and features-->HPET Timer Support), but I don't know if you have one.
