Why dinticks disapeard from 2.6.16-CK based sources?? I just downloaded new archck 2.6.16-archck2 and no dinticks menu option there:( (I dont use SMP)
It worked great for me... Lowered the temperature of my CPU -> lowered the fan rpm during idle...
And also in my notebook and there is energy consumption on the first place!!!

It's not dinticks but dynticks
Code:
Dynamic Tick Timer for Linux (dyn-tick) makes the HZ dynamic. When
using dyn-tick, the system runs at full HZ during load, and skips
ticks when possible while idle.

This allows extra power saving measures to be taken during the longer
idle periods. On a PC, the HZ can vary between 6Hz during idle and
1000Hz during load.

Dyn-tick was originally implemented for TI's OMAP ARM architecture,
and has been in use in the linux-omap tree since October 2004.

It was developed by people from Nokia and than... It came to Con Kolivas' attention after I dropped some posts on ck-mailing list.

Any ideas what happened to dynamic ticks, and why it was dropped? I just searched through the LKML, and can't find out what happened to it - it seems that people just stopped talking about it. The last I could find was that the patch does not work on SMP systems, and that some work was going to be done, but that was in August.
