How do I use/port this ubuntu patch to gentoo.

I have exactly this problem and the patch is described. Any clue how I can fix this in gentoo?

The latest version of alsa-driver in portage is: 1.0.11rc4. You'll have to check the changelog and/or the alsa-project website and see if this patch has been included already.

If not, you can copy the ebuild into your portage overlay and then edit the ebuild to add that patch you found into the src_unpack() section of the ebuild. Assuming you have your /etc/portage/package.keywords setup correctly, the latest version with this patch should be installed.

If your using the in-kernel ALSA driver you might be in trouble, as the version of ALSA currently used isn't high enough to use this patch.
