I just upgraded my kernel to 2.6.16. At first I tried the CK patchset, and the first time I rebooted, all was well. Then I shut down, left it for the night and came back in the morning. Booted up, after it mounts the drives and cleans up /var and /tmp, it spits out all these messages about not being able to delete files in those directories. I can't remember what the file names were, but they were all on /var (/tmp is mounted in ram). So, I download gentoo-sources and give that a go. Again, first time it boots up fine. I even try turning the computer off and coldbooting to see if that triggers a problem. Nothing. I boot up today, right after the cleaning up /var and /tmp I again get some errors. This time it can't create needed files in /var/lib/init.d/starting and a bunch of others in that same path. DMESG shows no errors. The really weird thing is that when I get to a console (at least with the gentoo-sources I can get a normal xdm and such, with ck I was only given a console login), the directories are fine and I can create files in them. This doesn't happen in 2.6.14. Anybody else getting errors like this? Oh, and I'm also using the BadRam patch, which I guess I'll disable today and try recompiling to see if that is the culprit. The problem is that this doesn't happen consistently.
