|

I installed gentoo from gentoo 2005.1-r1. Compiled kernel using genkernel. Added video option to grub.conf and rebooted.
I get black screen. I can see some text for a while but after that there's a black screen. Few seconds later my HHD diode is not lighting.
Is it foult of framebuffer option or wrong compiled kernel? What I have to do now? _________________ Just dunno... |

Try booting from the liveCD, mount your gentoo partition, and remove the fb option from your bootloader config first to see if it helps. I have never used Genkernel, but from what I understand it should already have proper FB support and all that jazz. You could also check out /var/log/dmesg (prb /mnt/gentoo/var/log from liveCD) while you're there to see if there are any clues as to where the breakdown is.

I'm not near my computer now but as I remember when I removed my vesa option it wasn't better. There were just uglier fonts. But after few seconds it got black again. I'd been correcting it for long hours but it didn't give good result.
Maybe I've compiled my kernel wrong, Dunno. Maybe I should try newer kernel. That was 2.6.11-r3 or something like this.
Sorry for my english but I'm polish pupil only. :> _________________ Just dunno... |

There hasn't been any significant kernel changes that would cause or solve this type of issue. More likely the kernel was not compiled with the necessary drivers for your computer. If you can boot from a liveCD, post the content of /var/log/dmesg and we can probably see where the trouble is. _________________
