My question how can I get the files to show up in a web browser. So like when I type in ftp://111.111.111.111(my ip) it will show up in IE and what not. I haven't really set up any config files...but I i've just messed around with the options when you run the daemon and nothing seems to work. It always says something about unable to secure the anonymous connection. |

Sounds like you don't have anonymous access enabled. If that's the case, it will not give a directory listing. Try logging in w/ a client as anonymous. If you can't, then that's possibly the problem. The other way to test is to pass the user/pass in the URL like this. |

ok that works(I could have sworn I tried that before. But how do I enable anonymous access. I looked in the man pages and I couldn't see anything. Also how do I make it so that the box shows up where you enter your username and password. |

Unfortunately, that stuff I'm not sure about. I don't recall that being a feature of an FTP server, but then again, I've not messed around w/ the min a very long time. |

Well haven't you ever gone to FTP sites on the net that have the little login box? That is also how I administer my website that is hosted by 1and1. When I got to the FTP site I have to login.
Also I still can';t log in anonymously. Is there something I have to set up? |

Have you browsed through /etc/conf.d/pure-ftpd ? In Gentoo, configuration of pure-ftpd is done there. There should be a list of options along with their meanings somewhere in that file, IIRC. _________________ The more you depend on forces outside yourself, the more you are dominated by them. |

Yea I did look in there and I couldn't seem to find anything. But it the /etc/conf.d apply if I'm running the daemon from the command line? I just run
not
Code: | /etc/init.d/pure-ftpd start |
So I'm pretty sure the conf.d settings don't apply. |

Yes, I was assuming you were using the initscript. Sorry.
Anyway, anonymous login should be enabled by default - care to share some of the error messages you mentioned in the OP? _________________ The more you depend on forces outside yourself, the more you are dominated by them. |
