PostPosted: Wed Apr 05, 2006 4:18 am    Post subject: Need help with madwifi and Atheros....card does not show up Reply with quote

I have a sony vaio laptop that I am trying to get my wireless card working on.

Card = Cisco CB21AG Atheros chip

I emerged the latest madwifi package and compiled with no problems. I can see the dmesg notice that a card has been inserted. I can see all the modules loaded properly in lsmod. However, when I do a lspci I do not see anything about the pcmcia card, just the cardbus.

When I run

Code:
wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode sta

I get wlanconfig: ioctl: No such device

I am getting a blinking light on my card, but no recognition that the drivers are loading and it is seeing the card. I know for a fact that the cards work, and am pretty sure about the slot. If I do iwconfig, it shows no devices, only lo and eth0.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have spent many nights trying to figure this out.

Code:
dmesg

Well since it's not showing up in the lspci output I am inclined to think there may be a physical problem with the card. Double check the connection and if at all possible try the card in another computer to verify that it is functional.

I have tried the card and got it working in xp on another machine. Whats weird is that I can't get any card to work on this laptop in XP. It has something to do with Xp as it doesn't even recognize when I insert anycard into it. Even weirder is that it works on this laptop in windows ME....yuk!
