I was searching around sourceforge and found this cool project, which looks like it could allow my to stream tv over the 'net. I have however been unable to find any references to it under gentoo (and am not confident in my abilities to make an ebuild)

All I could find in bugzilla was this link, which I'm not sure is even the right program:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=82273

Has anyone here installed or tried mythstreamtv out? How does it work, and how did you go about installing it?

MythStream and MythStreamTV are two differents things.

The first on allows you to read streams with MythTV.
The second one allows you to stream your recordings from MythTV.

I just proposed an ebuild for it here : https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109146

Feedback welcome!

I have just tried to install mythstreamtv using the ebuild provided here http://kazer.org/index.php?page=code using the additional info from here http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Installing_3rd_Party_Ebuilds

After having installed everything, MythStreamTV shows a Link on mythweb that reads "!!NoTrans: Stream Recordings!!" instead of just "Stream Recordings" I can click on it and I am presented with a list of Recordings, though no Videos and can make my selection as usual. When I start the stream, vlc outputs the following:

main: Connection to myhost.com port 8001 failed: Connection refused
access_mms: failed to open a connection (tcp)
main: Connection to myhost.com port 8001 failed: Connection refused
access_mms: failed to open a connection (tcp)
access_mms: cannot connect to server
main: Connection to myhost.com port 8001 failed: Connection refused
access_mms: cannot connect to osiris.simeli.net:8001
main: no suitable access module for `mms://myhost.com:8001'
macosx: Error: Unable to open 'mms://myhost.com:8001'...

I have followed directions using the

ebuild /usr/local/portage/category/program/program-version.ebuild digest
ebuild /usr/local/portage/category/program/program-version.ebuild unpack
ebuild /usr/local/portage/category/program/program-version.ebuild compile
ebuild /usr/local/portage/category/program/program-version.ebuild install
ebuild /usr/local/portage/category/program/program-version.ebuild qmerge

method. i compiled ffmpeg and vlc like this

[ebuild R ] media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20051216 -a52 +aac (-altivec) -debug -doc +dts +encode +ieee1394 +imlib -mmx +network* +ogg +oss +sdl -test +theora* +threads +truetype +v4l +vorbis +xvid +zlib 0 kB
[ebuild N ] media-libs/libcaca-0.9-r1 +X -doc +imlib +ncurses -slang 210 kB
[ebuild N ] media-libs/speex-1.1.7 +ogg -sse 580 kB
[ebuild R ] media-video/vlc-0.8.2-r2 -3dfx +X +a52 +aac -aalib +alsa (-altivec) +arts +bidi +cdda -corba -daap -debug +dts -dvb +dvd +esd +fbcon +ffmpeg +flac -ggi +gnutls +httpd -joystick +libcaca* -lirc +live +matroska -mod +mp3 +mpeg +ncurses +nls -nsplugin +ogg +opengl +oss +png +samba -screen +sdl +speex* +stream +svg +svga +theora +truetype +unicode +v4l +vcd +vlm +vorbis +wxwindows +xml +xosd +xv 0 kB

any ideas what could be wrong? It doesn't seem to start a process for streaming or anything. The Logfile in the mythweb Window stays empty... I am kinda lost
