Hi everyone.

I unmerged some packages that emerge --depclean said were unneeded, including all of gnome. (I used emerge -C <specific package listed by --depclean>, not --depclean itself. Unfortunately I use gdm and another couple of apps which now don't work! And emerging gnome and gdm brings up the following error:

Code:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 106) gnome-extra/gnome-keyring-manager-2.12.0 to /

...

checking for gtk+-2.0 >= 2.6.0
                  libglade-2.0 >= 2.0.0
                  libgnomeui-2.0 >= 2.6.0
                  gnome-keyring-1 >= 0.3.2... Package libgnome-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libgnome-2.0.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable Package 'libgnome-2.0', required by 'libgnomeui', not found
configure: error: Library requirements (gtk+-2.0 >= 2.6.0
                  libglade-2.0 >= 2.0.0
                  libgnomeui-2.0 >= 2.6.0
                  gnome-keyring-1 >= 0.3.2) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.

Of course, if I had put my libraries in a non-standard prefix I wouldn't be asking this!

Emerging libgnome brings:

Code:

sudo emerge libgnome
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) gnome-base/libgnome-2.12.0.1 to /

...

configure: error: Package requirements ( glib-2.0 >= 2.6.0   gobject-2.0 >= 2.0.0   gmodule-2.0 >= 2.6.0   gobject-2.0 >= 2.6.0   gnome-vfs-2.0 >= 2.5.3   libbonobo-2.0 >= 2.0.0   gconf-2.0 >= 1.1.11   esound >= 0.2.26          audiofile >= 0.2.3) were not met.
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively you may set the LIBGNOME_CFLAGS and LIBGNOME_LIBS environment variables
to avoid the need to call pkg-config.  See the pkg-config man page for
more details.

!!! Please attach the config.log to your bug report:
!!! /var/tmp/portage/libgnome-2.12.0.1/work/libgnome-2.12.0.1/config.log

!!! ERROR: gnome-base/libgnome-2.12.0.1 failed.
!!! Function econf, Line 495, Exitcode 0
!!! econf failed
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

I am going to try re-emerging pkgconfig as I think I did that the other day, but I doubt it would solve the problem since I'm pretty sure I compiled amarok successfully after that (still doesn't play sound, though. Blah, back to juk)

BTW, this message comes up after two different emerge --syncs, so maybe it's a problem that cannot be resolved by emerge alone?

Yes. Though I have to say I have never had a revdep-rebuild succeed for me.

Solved. Looks like it was just a bad ebuild. I've since emerge --sync'ed and gnome/gdm now work.
