|

Hey all. I'm kind of new to the linux world, and also to Gentoo. I've got a question i hope someone can help with. I've got Gentoo installed on my computer, running Gnome 2.2. So far, everything works great (even got my sound running - ESD for now - and my Raedon 7500 is working fine). I'm trying not to have anything compiled against Gnome 1.x libs, but XMMS has a HUGE list of dependencies, including many of the Gnome 1.4 packages. Is there any way to get it to compile without having to bring along all that older Gnome stuff, or am I stuck with having to install all that too if I want to listen to MP3's? Thanks! |

Try
Code: | USE="-gnome" emerge -p xmms
|
This will disable GNOME for just XMMS. I dunno if there is any GNOME special stuff for XMMS that would get left out, but at least that will fix your problem. |

I want to know could XMMS work without these gnome 1.x libs?
Will It use gnome2 libs?
And could other gome 1.x apps work this way?
Thanks! |

The gnome libs are only for the panel applet, it does use gtk1 because it hasn't been ported to gtk2 yet, hopefully it will be in the future. |
