I just received my ipw2200 mpci card from amazon, installed it, and set up the drivers according to
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_ipw2200

Everything is working, sort of:
Code:
ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, 1.1.2dmprq
ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:03:02.0[A] -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 20
ipw2200: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
ipw2200: Radio Frequency Kill Switch is On:
Kill switch must be turned off for wireless networking to work.

My gateway laptop has a wireless killswitch button on the top right, when wireless is on the LED will light up (pretty standard)
pressing the button gives me no response, currently the LED will blink on and off randomly, as if the driver is trying to turn it on
and it's instantly being killed (its just blinking). There isnt a fn+f{#} that i know of to enable it, and there is nothing in the bios.

Has anyone with a gateway had success with this button, or does anyone know what i need to get this working?

Ok so you added the card in to the laptop did you go into the bios and enable the minipci slot?
My dell had it disabled by default.
Also does the system come with blue tooth support?
My dell light is used by both wireless and Blue tooth :(
What happens when you try and use command
Code:

o10222-11 etc # iwlist scanning
lo        Interface doesn't support scanning.

eth0      Interface doesn't support scanning.

eth1      Scan completed :
          Cell 01 - Address: 00:09:B7:C4:43:A5
                    ESSID:"<hidden>"
                    Protocol:IEEE 802.11b
                    Mode:Master
                    Channel:11
                    Encryption key:on
                    Bit Rates:11 Mb/s
                    Extra: Rates (Mb/s): 1 2 5.5 11
                    Quality=65/100  Signal level=-61 dBm

If you have not signed on to a network it should produce a list of WAP's it finds.
have you installed ipw2200 in kernel or package?

Sorry about the delayed reply, just returned from classes.

Good news, Im using the wireless to make this post. After enabling support for
toshiba and dell laptops in the kernel, the radio killswitch got disabled (after booting into it).
So it all started working :)

There wasnt an option to enable/disable the card in the bios, which is why i was
feeling kinda hopeless about getting it working. It works great now:
Code:
     Cell 03 - Address: 00:0F:B5:AF:F5:98
                    Protocol:IEEE 802.11bg
                    .....
                    [b]Quality=94/100  Signal level=-32 dBm[/b]
                    Extra: Last beacon: 245ms ago

I'm very happy with the drivers and performance, i'm using the ~x86 ones in portage. Finally
I can say goodbye to the ndiswrapper :)
