I dont know what I did wrong, but on one of my gentoo installs I get a blank console after about 10 lines out boot up messages from the system. I know the system works perfect but for no consoles. It even gets into GDM and the rest of the X stuff. Please help, this system has been like this for a month. What info, config, log can I post here to help solve the problem. I'm desperate... please help.

When you post something like your last post, I don't think people are eager to help you.
You don't have multiple kernels you can boot?
Have you any idea why it doesn't work anymore? What have you changed since the last time it worked?
You could also try to explain your situation a little better because I don't know if I really understand what your problem is, you can't boot into gentoo anymore? right? |

Hi thanks for replying... my problem is this:
This gentoo was installed using the 2006.0 CD.
All went well until the first boot which had the symtoms mentiond:
Output of first 10 lines from kernel at boot as normal then
there appears some blue blinking underscores randomly around the screen.
The first 10 lines that were printed to the screen remain there till shutdown.
I had enabled all my networking stuff and ssh so I managed to install and configure Xorg with gnome.
So now I've been using this machine that at boot displays 10 lines of text then after a wait you get straight to GDM.
Since GNOME was comming up and I had to time to fix it...I've been working in X, now I need to do some stuff where X
might fail and I really need the TTY's up.
Also the terminals are verymuch there, its a video issue as I can login and run stuff though only all blind.
I'm recompiling my kernel now after removing the option of compiled in fonts.
[note: This was a pathetic cry for help I agree, actually it gets worse I had an older thread on the subject but didnt fair too well there either https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-445452-highlight-.html ...will remedy the obvious.] |

That did it removed kernel option to 'compiled in fonts' at the GraphicsSetup page (framebuffer).
Phew... that was lucky. |

I'm glad you found the solution, I'm still looking a solution for my problem
You have to be patient sometimes but I think this is the best support forum around and that's a reason why I like gentoo so much (of course there are a lot of other reasons too!) |

Hey I'm a Gentoo user for 3 years and I've never met one in person YET..seriously (for that mater I didnt meet anybody who knew anything about linux till 5 months ago!!!). Thats a testament on how goot these forums are.
I'd put gentoo on my toothbrush if I could. |
