i started out using imap and mutt, i liked it alot but my mail servers are very shifty and don't work all the time. my email service allows forwarding, so i started forwarding everything to gmail. gmail is great, we all know that. i dont know if i fully trust google anymore.
what i envision is somehow having the mail forwarded or pulled to my workstation; mutt, pine, or whatever accesses it as if it were local mail, and when i send/reply the messages look as if i were using the imap, (not myuser@myworkstation.mywork.org)
so in the end, all mail is on my box, not the organization's mail server. it just looks as if it were comming from the server.
currently i can send and recieve from myuser@myworkstation.mywork.org relayed through the smtp server of my organization, i'd like to keep this functionality because some services i run send mail to that user, and that user sends some messages to my cellphone.
so at this point i have working smtp and mutt, i just need to get my messages from myuser@mywork.org migrated to some mailbox on my workstation. |
